Registration and Participation on SBGames 2020
Some changes will happen on SBGames 2020 due to the pandemia of COVID-19. Therefore, we ask all interested parties to carefully read the following information.
The rationale behind these changes is to provide a conference, 100% online, the most accessible as possible. In this context, there are three ways to enjoy SBGames 2020.
- a) As a listener, which will be able to watch the live conference on open platforms, including the paper presentations, keynotes, and the festivals;
b) As an active participant, which in addition will be able, once registered on the conference, to receive a certificate of participation, formulate questions for the Q&A sessions and to participate in the job fair and forum of talents activities;
c) As an author who aims to validate a publication, through the registration and complementary publication fee, which in addition will be able to publish and present your work, gathering feedback about it.
In other words, there is no need for registration given you only want to watch (in a passive manner) the conference. However, for the other two cases, the registration is required.
In the particular case of the authors, to validate each publication it will be required to have one of the authors registered plus a complementary registration fee. The added registration fee represents the adhesion of SBGames to a worldwide trending model for online conferences, which associates part of the registration costs directly to the publications.
In summary, it will be required the registration only to the following cases:
- To access the Q&A system and interact with other participants and keynote speakers;
To participate on the job fair and the forum of talents of the industry track;
To present your game or artwork on the games festival and arts festival and gather feedback; To receive a certificate of participation.
It will be required the registration plus the complementary publication fee for the following cases:
- To validate the publication of a full paper, short paper or poster on the Arts & Design, Computing, Education, Culture, Healthy and Industry tracks;
To validate the publication of a full paper, short paper or poster in the Diversity in Games, GranDGamesBR, CTD, and G2 activities.
Aiming to reduce the participation costs, a package is offered to authors that are associated with the SBC (or do associate through the registration process). In this case, by covering the costs of the publication fee the author also covers his/her registration. It is important to notice that for each paper, an exclusive publication fee must be covered.
Publication Fees
In order to validate each publication, a respective publication fee must be paid. By covering the cost of a publication fee, a registration is granted to SBC associates. It is important to remind that it is possible to associate to the SBC in the registration process. The deadline for the payment of the publication fee is October 5, 2020. In case the fee is not covered by this date, the publication will not be validated and, therefore, the respective work will not be presented nor published.

* Please note that in the ECOS registration system, to validate the first publication, one of its authors must register and pay a complement to reach the publication fee required for that category. If the author wants to validate more than one paper, for each extra paper, the author pays an extra paper publication fee.

FAQ
Q. Is SBC membership mandatory?
The SBC (Brazilian Computer Society) association is optional, but by joining SBC it is possible to have substantial discounts for participation in the event. This discount format is an established practice, as SBGames is an event promoted by SBC.
Q. Why is there a publication fee?
This year we will have, for the first time, a 100% online edition of SBGames due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The edition will be inclusive, allowing the entire community to attend keynote lectures, paper presentations and discussions free of charge. The financing model that has been used worldwide for online events is in part directed to the publications. Therefore, this year, the registration model includes the novelty of the publication fee.
Q. I just want to attend the event and I don’t want a certificate, do I need to register?
You don’t need to register. You will be able to watch all keynotes, presentations and festivals on open platforms.
Q. Do all presenters have to be registered?
Yes! That said, if you have an accepted paper and paid your publication fee, you can ask someone else (co-author, for example) to present it in your place as long as that person is also registered.
Q. I would like to attend the festivals. Do I need to register?
You don’t need to register. You will be able to watch everything on open platforms.
Q. I will present my game or artwork at the games festival or the art festival. Do I need to register? Do I need to pay anything more?
The authors that will present it must register. There is no publication fee in this case.
Q. I had my game or artwork selected for the games festival or the art festival, but I won’t present it. Do I need to pay anything?
No. In this case it is considered that you are participating in a passive manner. Therefore, if you do not intend to present it, you don’t need to register. You can still win prizes and in this case, in particular, a certificate.
Q: I have an accepted paper. In addition to registering, do I have to pay the publication fee?
To validate your paper a publication fee must be covered. You must also ensure that one of the authors is registered. However, it is important to point out that if you are a SBC member or become a SBC member at the time of registration, you just need to pay the publication fee. Your registration, in this case, comes in the package!
Q. I am the author of more than one publication. How many times do I have to register and how many publication fees do I need to pay?
You only have to register once, but you have to pay a publication fee for each work to be published. However, as explained, if you are a SBC member or become a SBC member at the time of registration, when you pay for the publication fee of the first article, you already win your registration. This way, another author of one of the publications may want to pay for its publication fee in order to, at the same time that validates another publication, win the registration. If this is not the case, and you do want to pay yourself all the publication fees of more than one paper, then you can purchase an “extra paper fee” on the ECOS registration system.
Q: I have a paper co-authored with other people. Must everyone register?
To validate your publication, just one of the authors must be registered. In case the other co-authors may want to participate actively (access to the Q&A system, the job fair and the talent forum), then they should register as well.
Q. I have a paper co-authored with other people and one of the co-authors has already paid the fee of publication. Do I need to register?
If there is already one author of the paper registered, and one publication fee paid, the paper is already validated. However, if you need a certificate or want to participate actively (access to the question and answer system, the job fair and the talent forum), you need to apply.
Illustrative Examples of Participation
The following examples are described to illustrate representative cases about how interested participants can proceed in the ECOS registration system:
1 – I am a undergraduate student and I would like to validate a full paper publication on one of the 6 main tracks (Arts & Design, Computing, Culture, Education, Health, and Industry).
Choose an Undergraduate Student category and select one “Complement to Full Paper Registration SBGames – Student Author”.
*If acquired on schedule, the total costs for this option for SBC members will be R$ 215,00 (excluding the SBC membership costs).
2 – I am a graduate student and I would like to validate a full paper publication on one of the 6 main tracks (Arts & Design, Computing, Culture, Education, Health, and Industry).
Choose a Graduate Student category and select one “Complement to Full Paper Registration SBGames – Student Author”.
*If acquired on schedule, the total costs for this option for SBC members will be R$ 215,00 (excluding the SBC membership costs).
3 – I am a professional author and I would like to validate a full paper publication on one of the 6 main tracks (Arts & Design, Computing, Culture, Education, Health, and Industry).

4 – I am a professional author and I would like to validate a short paper publication.

5 – I am an undergraduate student and I would like to actively participate in the conference, including the job fair.
