About the Track

The main focus of the Arts & Design Track is on the design of games and other forms of digital entertainment. Design methods, narrative elements, immersion, interactivity, playability, scripts, 3D modeling, animation, special effects, interfaces, audio, and character design are some of the topics related to this track. You are invited to submit papers and posters to the Arts & Design Track of SBGames 2009.

You are invited to submit your work to the Art & Design Tack of SBGames 2009. This track will feature both full papers and technical posters (short papers):

Full Papers must report mature work in the area of games and digital entertainment (a list of topics of interest is shown below ). They may be written in Portuguese or English and do not exceed 10 pages.

Technical Posters (Short papers) are suitable for short reports on game research and development and works which are not mature enough for a complete publication. They may be written in Portuguese or English and are limited to 4 pages.

All contributions must be original, unpublished work. Any work that has previously been published or is been simultaneously submitted in similar form to any other conference or journal will be rejected. Accepted papers will be published in the Conference Proceedings, and at least one author must be registered, attend, and present the work at the symposium.

Submissions will be made electronically through the JEMS System. Papers will be subjected to a double blind review system, thus authors must avoid including information that allow their identification (names, affiliations, explicit self-references, project names, etc). Paper formatting instructions available below.

Topics of relevance include, but are not restricted to:

  • Game Design: Game Terms and Concepts (entertainment, fun, pleasure, motivation, etc), Concept Development Techniques, Game Design, Game Bible Development, Level Design, Gameplay, Genre Design, Impacts of Special Restrictions (national or regional legislation, for instance) and Applications (education, training, publicity, etc) in the Game Design, Game Design Customization for Different Platforms.
  • Game Interface Design: Design Method Studies, Interface Design, Interface Evaluation, Interactivity, Media Integration, Ergonomy, Playability, Interface Customization for Different Devices, Game Tutorials.
  • Game Art: Scenario and character design and development, Customization for Different Devices, Art Direction in Games, Aesthetic Values in Games, Games as an Art form.
  • Game Narrative: Theory, Researches, Creation Process and Reached Results.
  • Game Media: Audio, Text, Images, Graphics, Info graphics, Animation, Special Effects, Media Integration.
  • Designer and Artists Roles in Game Development Teams: Special Skills and Main Functions of the Following Professionals in Game Development Teams: Designers, Artists, Audio and Video Experts, Team Integration Techniques.
