Only recently, games and other digital entertainment applications were recognized as a serious and amalgaming theme of many high-level challenges in computer science. These challenges exist because of real-time demand and interaction found in simulation, visualization and network distribution (wired/wireless) of environment and processes.
This new area of research is strongly interdisciplinary, involving innumerous topics (Computer Graphics, Artificial Intelligence, Multimedia, Animation, Networks…) and having a strong cooperation with artistic areas and design. It is of great strategic interest for the country, due to its strong impact in industry and society, ranging from entertainment, real-time simulations, culture and education.
With the objective of supporting the development and consolidation of the games area and digital entertainment in Brazil, CE-Jogos was created in 2005. CE-Jogos is a Special Interest Group on Games and Digital Entertainment of SBC (Brazilian Computer Society). This committee is linked to the SBC and its goal is to join togtether the many communities interested in the games area, through its main events. The CE-jogos supports the realization of the Brazilian Symposium of Games and Digital Entertainment (SBGames), the main event in the games area, taking place once a year. CE-Jogos also supports regional events, such as GDS (UNISINOS/RS) and SCGames(Univali/SC).
CE-Jogos maintains a strong link with many industries and involved people in games, through ABRAGAMES. Also it provides an electronic discussion list and headlines about the subject. The subscription is free and can be made at the section of Discussion Lists.
