SBGames is the main event on game research and development in Latin America. Promoted by the Brazilian Computer Society (SBC) with the support of the Brazilian Electronic Game Development Companies Association (ABRAGAMES), the symposium brings together students, professors, artists, designers and professionals from several universities, research centers and game industry.

This is the seventh edition of SBGames and in its current format, the symposium is composed by 4 main tracks (Computing, Art & Design, Industry and Games & Culture), where is presented papers, posters and tutorials. Either, SBGames 2008 will host and support Independent Games, 2 workshops (Blender Pro and the 1st Computer Game Forum on Computer Science Education) and national / international keynote presentations (Microsoft Reasearch, Sony, Novamente and others).

In 2008, the symposium will be held in Belo Horizonte - MG, from November 10th to 12th. The event will be co-organized by the Pontifical Catholic University of Minas Gerais (PUC Minas) and the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG).


The SBGames started in 2002 with the name WJogos, mainly devoted to computing, and, since then it has been yearly organized enlarging its scope to include art, design and industry issues. In its current format, SBGames is composed by four tracks (SBGames - Computing; SBGames - Arts & Design; SBGames - Industry; SBGames - Games & Culture), two festivals (The Independent Games Festival and The Art Exhibition), short papers, and tutorials. The Games & Culture Track had its first edition in 2007.

Computing and Arts & Design tracks present papers, short papers, and tutorials, whereas the Industry track offers panels and seminars. The Independent Games Festival presents sketches of working games in an informal and cheerful session dedicated to innovation, technique, imagination, and emergence of new talents. The Art Exhibition presents conceptual game designs, storyboards, experimental aspects of games, and pieces of electronic art for games, in a variety of media.
