CALL FOR PAPERS | POSTERS (SHORT PAPERS) | TUTORIALS

This is the fourth edition of the Art & Design Workshop for Computer Games and Digital Entertainment - Art & Design 2007. Art & Design Workshop results from an increasing demand for academic events where Art and Design community is able to present and discuss issues and works related to Computer Games and Digital Entertainment.

You are invited to participate by submitting proposals in one or more of the following categories: Paper, Poster, Tutorial and Concept Art.



CALL FOR PAPERS

Art & Design 2007 will be considering both full papers and posters. The papers should be about mature research with conclusive results and the posters should describe an incipient research or a survey.

. Full papers: not exceed 10 pages
. Short papers (posters): not exceed 04 pages.

* Game Design Project: Project Methodology, Documentation and Project Management.
* Computer or Console Game Design
* Game play. Game Rules and Boundaries. Challenge Design.
* Web Game Design. Multiplayer Games.
* Mobile Game Design (GPS, cellular). Mobility.
* Game Design with new technologies (bio, nano, AR etc)
* Interconnectivity (blogging, video blogging, pod casting, interactive TV)
* Game art.
* Narratives. Interactive story. Specific narratives for games and others genres, like hypertexts, interactive poetry, interactive literature etc.
* Game Interface Design.
* Interaction Design for Games.
* Sound Design for Games.
* Animation for game projects.
* Typography for game projects.
* Level Design.
* Virtual World Concept and Building.
* Character Design.
* Aesthetics and artistic issues in Computer Games. Concept Art.
* Game and body (Space, embodied, telepresence, dance and art performances)
* Ergonomics and Usability. Playability.
* Serious Games projects.
* Advergames projects.
* Interface among games and other genres: Cinema, Cartoon, Visual Arts, Music and Literature.
* Innovative and alternative Interfaces (bodily interfaces, interfaces for disabilities, invisible interfaces, collective interfaces).
* Theory and Philosophy of concepts related with art and games design.
* Taxonomy. Games genres.



POLICIES

It is the conference policy that at least one of the authors of accepted papers has to register for Art & Design track.  All contributions must be original. Any work that has previously been published or simultaneously been submitted in substantially similar form to any other conference will be rejected.  Authors cannot submit the same work as both paper and poster.


FORMAT

Papers may be written in English or Portuguese. They should be no longer than 10 pages (full papers) or 04 pages (posters), including all tables, figures and references. Over-length works may be rejected. Pages must be in letter format, simple spaced, Times Roman 10p font and margins (left and bottom 2.5cm; right and top 2cm). The text must contain the title, authors' name and their universities or companies. An example of a valid format can be found HERE.  The papers must be sent in PDF format. Works in other formats will not be accepted.
Authors must submit their papers/posters using the JEMS system (https://submissoes.sbc.org.br/sbgames2007).

Submission Deadline- Full Papers:
August 20, 2007 (Monday)

Notification of Acceptance:
October 01, 2007 (Monday)

Camera-ready:
October 15, 2007 (Monday)

Topics addressing game programming and related uses such as artificial intelligence, engine architecture etc should be submitted to Computing track, which is also part of SBGames.

Topics addressing game culture and related uses such as violence and games, sociability and games etc should be submitted to Game & Culture track, which is also part of SBGames.




CALL FOR TUTORIALS

Tutorials represent an opportunity to share the experience senior researchers and professionals have gathered in their work in this area with a broader public.
The deadlines for SBGames tracks and tutorials are unified. (see above)


TOPICS OF INTEREST

The tutorials will cover three areas: Computing, Art&Design and Game & Culture. The specific subject can be, but are not limited to, one of those suggested in the respective three tracks (computing Art&Design and Game & Culture).
If you have experience on these domains, you can submit a proposal.
Proposals will be selected based on their merit and adequacy to the event and the other works being presented.
If you are just interested in attending some tutorials, as soon as the proposals are selected, they will be published here and you will be able to subscribe to them.



SUBMISSION INFORMATION AND PROCEDURES

Tutorials will have a duration of 3 hours and the following instructions apply to all proposals.Tutorials proposals should not be longer than one or two pages and should contain all of the following information, written in English or in Portuguese:
1) Title: Abstract, containing the tutorial's objectives, methodology and any information that may be relevant for its selection.

2) Track (Art & Design, Computing, Game & Culture)

3) Target audience: Recommended pre-requisite knowledgeAuthors, including, for each one: name, e-mail address, highest academic degree achieved and name of the company or research institution to which the author is affiliated Resources required for the presentation.


4) All proposals should include a short (150 words or less) biography of each speaker participant, including relevant experience (mandatory); Supporting documentation and examples (optional)
The submissions must be e-mailed to games@comunidadesvirtuais.pro.br and must contain [SBGamesTutorials] in the message's title.
