Call for Presentations | Detailed Program

Game development involves high qualified and big effort on art and design. Nowadays, the amount of artists and designers in a geme development team represents more than 70%. In this context, SBGames has been organizing, since 2004, the Art Festival aiming to motivate new talents in the games development field, as well as publicizing artworks of professionals artists and designers.

This year the presentation of the Game Art Festival works will be in the form of videos and/or printed concept art. Authors can submit more than one video and each video should be accompanied by a text that describes the project. The Festival Committee will select the videos based on its relevancy, innovation and contributions to game development.

Videos themes are not framed into fixed rules. Authors may submit videos that present a discussion of the theoretical and technical concepts involved in game art and design production. Projects presentation may be about games concepts – not yet in development – or real games that is still in development or finished projects.

Important dates

The deadlines for SBGames festivals are:

  • Postponed 25/10/06 – submission of artworks and games
  • 31/11/06 – Notification of pre-selected artworks and games
  • 8-10th November (during SBGames), exhibitions and competitions
Submission Information and Procedures

>> Videos

Each submitted video shall introduce designers and/or artists involved in the project, and explain how their work contributes for a better game development. Videos may or may not contain narrative explanation, and its edition can be as creative as authors desire. Required steps for video submission:

1. Produce your own video
2. Edit the video – tip: avoid lengthy videos; you can split it in small pieces, and submit as many videos as you want.
3. Video format:

  • AVI (uncompressed) or MOV (uncompressed) or MPEG-4 (H264)
  • Frames per second: 30 (preferably) or 15 (minimum)
  • Bit Rate (Min): 900 kbps
  • Max Length: 8 min

4. Each video must be submitted in a DVD or CD, labeled with: project title, author(s) name(s)
5. Before submit your video, send an abstract of your work to diegocredidio @ gmail.com in a RTF or DOC file, with maximum of 300 words. This file must also contain the project name, author(s) and co-author(s), presenter name (if there is one), institution or company.

7. Videos will be presented during the Festival and will be uploaded in the Internet during and after the Festival. Authors should send a document authorizing the presentation of their videos.

>> Concept Art

Art Festival will be accepting concept art of games: running projects or finnished ones.

Follow this instructions to submit your work:

1. Submission must contain one or more printed artwork;

2. Fit your artwork on an A3 paper (download template here) and use your creativity. You can freely use blank space, filling with your art or even explanatory text;

2. Printed artwork must be fixed in a "triplex" paper, turning it into a rigid board;

3. Also send your artwork as a digital file, in a labeled CD or DVD (printable resolution);
